Have a Server 2003 print server with printers setup for people to connect to.

Works fine when connect to the printers from an XP machine as

\\printserver\P4000

The drivers download and then they print to it fine.

However, very, very slowly moving to Windows 7 64bit machines.  Problem now is you go \\printserver\P4000 and it can’t find drivers for it.  I tried to get the drivers off the HP site but having a problem finding them for Windows 7 64bit.

Printers are
HP Laserjet 4350dtn
HP Laserjet 4300dtn

Tried downloading these

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=84046&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=84041&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4024

the server 2008 64bit drivers to try.  Went to \\printerserver\P4000 and it can’t find the drivers but then says if you want to try and manually locate them.  So I do an point to the Server 2008 drivers but it refuses to install.  Get access denied.  Wonder if that’s because the user didn’t have admin rights?

Any suggestions would be good.  I got round it with a temp fix by (from the Windows 7 machine) just connecting to the printers via IP and bypassing the print server.

I reckon it'll probably be down to Admin privvy's myself.

Remember on Vista/7 they'll leave UAC on and the user will have a limited account.
With those in place you're pretty screwed unless you can install with Admin Rights.

Yup deff think thats part of the problem, but the drivers should still show up in the drivers list on the printserver. Thats how I thought the first link would be useful as it tells you that the 32 and 64bit drivers should be named the same  and then setting up the group policy to allow folk without admin rights to install them with out UAC butting in.
