ERBS- American for herbs. In the UK herbs are a variety of fresh or dried fragrant plant leafs used as flavouring when cooking. ERBS is how one would expect a person from Cornwall to pronounce HERBS but strangely Americans sound more Brythonic than people from the South West of mainland Britain.

And I am not Glaswegian nor do I speak Wegie for the record.

How wide spread is the Glaswegian accent, is it any easier for a Scot to understand it than it is for others?

He's close enough to a Weegie that it makes no difference.  Wink

i.e. Glasgow in full Weegie = Glesga
Glasgow 10 miles away = Gleskay

Pissed - NZ means drunk as in I got so pissed I could hardly stand.
Pissed - US means angry

An imported US bumper sticker was used here because us Kiwis thought it was hilarously funny - it read "Jesus is coming - and boy is he pissed!"

There are so many poorly written apps, it's a joke. Android does a very poor job of vetting them. As far as task management, that depends solely on what apps are running and what services they call for. Droid does well by itself, but if you have poorly written apps, it all goes to shit. Task manager is good as a diagnostic tool. It's either that or uninstall until the problem goes away. I'd rather have an educated guess. As far as dependencies go, try shutting down services that are not core and see how fast some come back. Once again, a clean install works well, but apps can end that shortly. I have had my nightmares.

Try shutting down a core service in Windows and see how far that'll get you!! You won't find many apps that are dependencies, whereas you'll find plenty of core services that apps depend on. The task manager I used won't let me kill core services. I literally can't tell the difference between task manager or not with my phone though. Truth is, if you cancel a call to an app, Android will respawn it... so things are open only as long as they need to be. The only way to solve an app being called is to uninstall it!

And about your Americanisms. Who gives a shit how it's said? Really? It's just language.

I don't disagree on the core services. I am simply speaking to the fact that many apps run services in the background that don't need to be running if the app is not active, therefore slowing the phone down. I agree on task killer and the difference at idle. However at times even I can tell if I have to many background services running. I use task killer as a diagnostic tool. It gets put on my phone if I have an app causing issues and then I remove it. I really try to stretch my phone to do many things it was never intended for and sometimes it can be a headache trying sort what services are causing a conflict. I was proposing that Hijpo use it a diagnostic tool, not  to spped up his phone.

Oh, I agree there... just saying that in most cases a task killer for speed increases is silly! The only way to stop an app from being spawned in some way though is to uninstall though... the amount of times you'll task kill something, then go back and look at the task manager and it'll be back instantly!!

Can the op not just back up his apps  etc via titanium or something similar, then do a factory reset? That way you'll know whether its a battery problem or an app that's causing it. If its an app then reinstall from titanium one by one till you find the bugger

I do end up uninstalling some times. It's a big pain though if I really like the app. I ran into issues with red phone and remote. I really liked red phone, but it had to go. I try to lock down and encrypt all data leaving my phone.
