I would of thought that competition would have precluded them from making such a silly ass rate hike. It almost seems like they want to run customers off. We have a Texas senator here that sells insurance. He only wants to sell liability though, so he jacks regular rates way up so that no one will buy full coverage from him. Less paper work and more money. It's slightly unethical, but legal.

It seems to me that the insurance companies hike up your renewal quote and hope that you either dont notice or just cant be bothered with the hassle of switching. I am quite sure that there is plenty of people out there that do both.

Roscop, that is a true and slightly depressing thought.

Someone who worked with the insurance industry gave a clue to what goes on over at the Yamaha forum.

Quote
Some companies are also playing around with different pricing depending on a completely random factor to see what flex exists on price. One such example was a company that if your customer number ended in an even, the standard price was increased by 10%, odd number by 5% and if you were lucky enough to end in 0, you got a 5% discount. All this was done to compare the renewal retention rates of the different price changes from standard (they also factored in location and product) to see if they could put up the price and still have good renewal retention.

Well like a total numpty I've been getting insurance quotes for my new car based on my NCD from my other car policy, forgetting that I'm keeping the other car and that I'd have to start a new policy on the new car with zero NCD.

DOH!

My quotes jumped from the 300 mark to 600 and some cheeky bastages even wanted 900 ! WTF!!!  flee
What a stupid oversight.

Anyhoo, disaster averted.
I checked Tesco out rather as through a compare site and they ask if you have any NCD on another car that isn't the relevant policy you're getting a quote on.
They came in at £310.   smile
Plus I get my clubcard points  laugh  (man I'm so hooked on Tesco clubcard points, they make a huge difference at Christmas time)

Just got a policy renewal reminder through from eCar Insurance: Your annual renewal premium is £717.88

They're having a fucking laugh aren't they?
They can stick that offer where the sun don't shine. laugh

What the hell.. that's more than mine!

Though, I'm on limited mileage, I also do live in London which basically means they rape you right up the bumhole.

I ended up paying just over £600 for fully comp class 2 business insurance, with breakdown cover and a decent courtesy car (if required).

So much for having a no claims discount of about 9 years, it's as if they still make a big deal about it on the one hand, but treat it as irrelevant on the other. (twats)  dry
