Probably a silly question. I have ordered a NAS device, I have two computers, one desktop the other one a netbook/laptop, if I wanted to access the files on both computers would I need a ethernet switch?

If you don't want one PC to have to always be on then yes.

Or your broadband router might have a free port on it that you can use to plug it into.

Nice. I am looking at doing the same thing, except at the moment I'm a broke bastard and I'm going to build one out of the multitude of spare parts I have lying around. It would be much easier to just get a NAS box, but that won't happen for a short while.  Wink

Since they are delivering the item using a courier, that they are not sending it via by either one of two of my ex-companies. If they are, I will make sure the either one will not lie about the delivery  wacko

Silly question, but does this need a proper router as in proper broadband such as wired broadband connection rather than mobile broadband such as Mifi or WAN connections

OK, fair enough it did need a wired connection, but is there any NAS storage that don't need internet connection out there?

How much do you want to spend? Great units with not many issues I'm aware of, but they have proprietary mobos (as do other similar units that require a processor) that may cause an issue in the long range.

Whoa, that is a bit expensive...I don't know if that link was suppose to take me directly to a product (it doesn't)

Max £150...but I don't want one with the internet access bit, I don't see the point of them unless I was wanting to set up a business or something

I didn't link to a model, just the brand. They do make just a straight up nas, but they don't necessarily make one in your price range.  I'm not sure. I do install one model in RV's. They can rack up some serious storage. Have you looked at the HP mini's?
