Just discovered that any time you're signed into your Gmail account and do a search through Google then the bastards store it so they can target you with ads. I've just deleted a few years worth of searches and switched the setting off.

Google.com/history

Sign in and sort it......you don't want the wife finding all your porn searches LOL.

Total fucking abuse of their position imo.

I'd have thought it was obvious that if you left your browser logged into your account (or used iGoogle or Google Desktop) they'd be able to put 2 and 2 together.  biggrin

If you log in and then back out, does Google still have a record of which user was on which IP and use that info though? (I can't find an answer)

Couple of other things that spring to mind is Virgins Advanced Search service (that you had/have to opt out of). If you mistyped a URL, Virgins DNS servers would step in and offer you some 'suggestions'.
That was a bit too suss for me.

And there was the AOL fiasco a few years ago where the ISP kept a record of all their account holders searches conducted through their own internet search service...that were subsequently leaked.

I suppose the only way to make it difficult for them is to use a VPN Proxy service.  scratchhead

247 Google Searches in one day... (my history goes back to 2007)

I do wonder what I'd do without them sometimes.

I've always signed into gmail with Chrome but used Firefox to search.

I've never noticed any adverts that relate to anything that I've searched for but maybe I've got tunnel vision.
