As everyone knows, due to the floods in Thailand they have now become scarce.
Over here (if you can find any) the prices have doubled or trebled.
Big problem as I'm building some new machines

There's probably some speculation that could be done in these situations.
RAM was the same a couple of years ago when a big Korean chip plant caught fire*.






*wonder if they put it out by draping a big damp towel over it.

I remember tremors in the east unbalanced the wafer holding equipment (for want of a better phrase) a while ago too, it meant RAM more than doubled and was scarce as hens teeth.



I fancied a new HDD for my Christmas too, oh well, typical.

The brother in law does business over there, next door to one of the main plants that produces hard drives.
He was talking to one of his clients the other day and the whole industrial estate is under 3m of water, so there might be a shortage for a wee while.

I paid, I think, £70 for a WD 1tb Black about 2 or so years ago (maybe more)... apparently they are £225 each on ebuyer.

I bought a WD 2tb Green a bit mroe recently and I think for £85. £215 now!!

Apparently my PC must have close to £900 of Hard Drive in my PC and I paid less than a third of that for them :|

I've still got a few 5GB IDE drives but I don't think anyone would want them.

I'll keep them for sentimental reasons.

Camera manufacturers has also been hit with the same problem, which sucks since I want an upgrade
