Winter is coming!

« on: November 05, 2011, 12:49:48 AM »

Seems there is going to be a general strike amongst public sector workers on the 30th of November.

Even the normally quiet association of primary head teachers have agreed.

I however have a dilemma.

As a supply pool worker I'm on a temp contract and not entitled to the pensions the strikes is about. Yet I'm expected to stay at home on November the 30th and receive no pay for that day. Full time contracted support workers will not receive pay either, but they are safe in the knowledge that should they be sick the day after they will be paid, I would not.

so I'm in two minds if I should turn up for work that day or not. After all, they are prepared to strike to protect their pensions etc...but not willing to strike to give peeps like me on shit temp contracts full and equal rights to those we work alongside...ie: sick pay and chance to enter a pension.

What to do eh ?

AFAIAC the union should be calling foul of these convenient for the council contracts and demanding equal contracts.

So I reckon I'll turn up at work on the day of the strikes and proceed to the council offices proclaiming myself available for work. I can afford one day strike but not afford any other unforeseen illness that my colleagues would get paid for that I would not.

go to work.. tbh these strikes are more about the older generation and protecting their pensions.. would they do it for you or even teachers on their probationary years? Don't think so? I still go for a drink with one of the teachers I used to work with, i was out with him last saturday and he's refusing to go on strike because if he does he'l-l be doing it fora generation who only have ten years or so to go and theyl'll be ok anyway

Is it not a case that the pensions are related to the CPI and in effect worth 15% less than they were as a result....with no pay increases and contributory donations in order to actually be qualified for the pension it equals a pay cut.  I think that teacher you speak of is a bit soft mate.
Those who are eligible for retirement in the next ten years were proposed to keep their current deal.....but those who are not eligible in the next ten years are going to be worse off. It's not a case of striking for a few that are due retirement soon, it's striking for the vast majority that are not due to retire.

I 100% agree with the people eligible for council pensions, I don't agree with asking those that are not even eligible for pensions within local councils to also strike...being my dilemma.

and i think.. you talk a load of shite at times....in fact.. i KNOW you talk aload of shite at times. See "the soft guy" you speak of.... he's always fighting for better rights for part time workers in schools, in fact he was the main one who argued the case that I should have been taken on full time.. which i did. Don't slate people you don't know, Graham, there's a lot of people out tere who think you're an asshole but would never declare it in public because its a personal opinion.

Greg's pension is protected.. his moral stance was why should he strike for something that was going to benefit his  retirement and shaft the younger generation?.. if thats soft.. then you're a fuck off smile

Wow, you're a real example of cool tonight.

In fact...for someone who fights for peoples rights yet he seems to think this strike is for protecting the pensions of those due to retire he must be soft...either that or you got the wrong end of the stick.

Don't be so fucking arrogant in the future...RICHARD. If my wordings were not to your taste a simple say so would suffice. But their context would remain.

You're abusive styled postings are no revelation, wouldn't be the first time. sorry if I offended your feelings towards your boyfriend.

Know what ?

You've inadvertently stated your stance on our friendship...one little statement about someone being soft and you go off on an abusive rant and offensive personal attack on people who are supposedly your friends.

fuck you.

No friend of mine anymore.

In fact...

Everything I just said was reactionary and undignified

In retrospect though I still find the underlying consternations   of your ass hole statement about me to be telling of something you wanted to say.

I get the impression you got off on it.

Wow, all those posts and not one has the apology in it that you should have made regarding your statement.

You know something? After twenty odd years of friendship I think I've got the right to call you out when you're being an arrogant fud and slating another friend of mine because you think you know best. And do you want to know something else? If it had been the other way about and Greg had been slating you I would do the exact same thing. The thing is, you don't know Greg so you have no right to be saying he's a bit soft, he's actually one of the nicest and most intelligent people I've ever met.

And, yes, you do talk shite at times as does everyone but people don't say you're a bit soft because of it so you're just going to have to deal with that wee emotional upset.

Noo, if you want to throw away a perfectly good friendship because someone is telling you you're basically being a bit of a dick then go for it. Imo, you're being a bit of a drama queen and should just get over it.

You of all people should know that I'm fiercely loyal to my friends and will defend them to the hilt and calling Greg a bit soft was a personal attack on someone I hold in really high regard. As for him being my boyfriend.....well that's another story :P

So....get back down off your soapbox and chillax its not the first time we've fell out, wont be the last....I dare say there'll be more times when you're being a Fanny or I'm being a fud, it happens c,est la vie......at the end of the day, this is only the internet, its not real life Wink

So, on that premise I hope I'll see you tonight on TS so I can call you a cock and kick you're arse again at BF3

What I called him soft ?

Big deal. It wasn'y a personal attack on him, it was an opinion on his politics regarding this strike, you could have, as a friend read between the lines.

Effectively calling me an arsehole was way more out of order, was nothing drama queen about. Fact is you love getting people ' telt ' especially when you're drunk. You really offended me with your comments far more I reckon than any offence I caused you.

You were basically calling him thick because you didn't agree with him which, tbh is a bit arseholish and I'll stand by that. I love getting people, 'telt' so calling you an asshole wen you're being an asshole is getting you 'telt'? wtf? I'd rather a mate let me know I was being a fud than let me continue being one.

can you not see the arrogance in that statement  in that its "all about you"? You're still not taking responsibility for the fact that you DID offend me. FFS get over yourself and at least have the decency to admit when you're in the wrong. You and I both know that there's no other context that we'd use the phrase, "he's a bit soft" other than to imply that someone is thick so don't gimme the crap that I should read between the lines.

Here I got you this

so you can put all these

back in it.  laugh

So.. about nine the night then? :P

You two are mental.  laugh

The Government says those due to retire within the next ten years will be unaffected, but it's a lie.
They've already been affected and that'll carry through.

I can see their point, but in your situation I'd go to work.

p.s. I paid into a private pension scheme for about 8 years when I worked for Brinks and I got a statement through from the Board of Trustees yesterday.
They have assets of around £12 million, but liabilities of around £18 million.
...either they're inept, or it's a reasonable example of the state of many pension funds.
(As far as I can make out, Brinks will pay into the scheme to try and cover the shortfall....unless they go out of business)
