Someone Lin works with has asked me totally destroy the data on one PC & remove data & & clean up 2 more.

Problem the HP compaq has "PGP whole disk encryption" & the BIOS is password protected (it was her husband's old works computer). Her husband can't remember the password & I doubt if he ever knew the BIOS password.

I can't access the recovery drive, I've tried a Mandiva live disc & a Bart PE disc & neither allow access. The Bart disc offers the option to reinstall or repair Windows XP but the PC has Vista installed.

Anyone got any ideas how I can access the recovery drive or crack either password?

You could reset the bios password by removing the main battery and the CMOS battery.

Before you do that, apparently (Google says) flashing the BIOS does the trick also. Wink

I thought you had to be able to access the BIOS before you flash it.

I'm going to have to try that though because the screws won't come out so I can't remove the keyboard.

Not always.
If you look at some on the link you'll see that that they're for flashing within Windows OS.

p.s. Apparently you don't need to upgrade, flashing with the same version works if you already have the most recent.

I couldn't get into Windows because of PGP so I couldn't flash from within windows.

I ended up installing Vista from another disc & decided bollocks to the BIOS.
