I was thinking that myself.Someone would need admin to keep up with spam control. That's damn near a full time job on the back end. Thank Woosty guys if you get a chance, because he gaurds the front doors well. Think of all the forums that get spam hammered. That doesn't happen here because of Wooster. Just thought I'd mention that.

But then he goes and gets wasted and spams us with his own personal brand of spam.

Aye, it can be a bit of a steam(ing) valve.. The migration isn't a short job, biggest hurdle is seeing if the database migrates over cleanly, then there's the security side, themes and porting over all the images we use...oh and figuring out how the new admin interface works (I had a look while it was still in beta and it's a bit different). The plan is to see if I can get it up and running by the time we turn the Chrimbo theme off. The reason I haven't gotten it done by now is because I'm a bit sick of sitting here...it feels like work, since I'm sitting here working most of the time.

Pleasure compute! I like that. Chaps, I don't want to hog your bandwidth and gum up the system, but I'm still up for this and appreciate all your help if it doesn't take up too much time for you all. I've got me thinking cap on, so start worrying.

Can't, unless I jack the job in (which is getting some serious consideration) In the last few months I've come to realise that the biggest drawback from working from home is that you never feel as if you aren't working. After three or four day stints sitting here doing paperwork and rarely leaving the house, I feel like an extension of my PC. I had a job in Fraserburgh last week and I was glad to get out of the house. (But then I'm just switching the PC for a steering wheel and three pedals for seven hours...but at least the scenery changes. ) Granted it's taken four years to come to the realisation, but it's there all the same. Splinter, Come the new year we can get you set up mate.

It's called Cabin Fever mate And there's no rush anyway. It's a project, an idea. A different way for we expats to communicate without being spied on and being under constant threat of bans as it were. Have a whisky!

As said, onced the DB is freed again it's no problem to set you up on loan as a precursor/trial/test bed for your own ex pat forums. Suggestion of names ? EPAGT Ex Pats And General Twats

Reading PM's is low..iirc the only way they could do it is to change a users password so they can log in under their credentials...but how would they know what the old one is to change it back?
It's unlikely they are encrypted, I don't know any Forum that does by default. It would be a trivial matter to check the database, or write something to display a usernames messages. Incidentally. [Design by: vBulletin Skins Zone Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.7.3 I know the .org vBulletin is simples enough to read the Database, plugin friendly forum too. None of the things you've mentioned are standard functionality believe it or not. I actually went for an Interview with vBulletin once... it's not far from my parents place, 15 miles or so. Anyways... EPAGT.. you could tell everyone else the GT stood for Gin and Tonic ;p

Databases are a dark art for me, the only thing I know how to do is Backup & Compress them...oh and hit the Optimise button once in a while (while holding my breath).

If you're going stuff like trying to read PMs, all you'd ideally need some form of direct access to query the DB (though you could do it by script) and the ability to use the SELECT and JOIN (and know which type of join to use)
I could probably get access to the PM system and run off a report of who said what to whom in about half an hour

So what you are saying is it's probably best to read and delete any PM's right away in order to thwart nosey bastards?

Just reload every time you send a pm. They'll know you mean business then.
