Two earth like planets found orbiting a star like our sun.
It amazes me that two planets are found due to dips in light as they passed the star and yet they can tell how big, what there make up is and other details without actually exploring them.

In related news, they also think they've found the largest ever supermassive black hole.

It's about the same mass as 36 billion suns...that's an almost incomprehensible figure.  flee

Astronomy often comes up with numbers that give you an achy cranium. Don't even have anything to compare with.

The amazing thing about kepler is it studies a massive field of stars. It discovered these planets within about 3 months of being turned on, from what I read... it just needed three instances to confirm!

-edit-

Just so I can confirm, it statically studies a field of stars, which is a tiny fraction of our galaxy... just checked it's about a 3000 light year field spread in distance. The amount of planets we are finding it it is redonkulous.
