Virgin Media's upgrade will mean customers currently signed up for 10Mbps will be boosted to 20Mbps, while users on 20Mbps and 30Mbps packages will both be upped to 60Mbps.
Those on 50Mbps will be increased to 100Mbps. Customers already on the top 100Mbps tariff will be raised to 120Mbps - the fastest speed Virgin Media is currently able to provide.

In response to Virgin Media's plans, BT said: "It is no surprise to see that Virgin are following our lead by doubling speeds.

"We announced we would do this for our fibre products last autumn and so they are trying to catch up with us."

BT's fastest available speed to the majority of its customers is currently 40Mbps.

Well Virgin are following BT by doubling there speeds its just that they happen to be doubling an already superior service that BT are only just catching up on and will be left behind again.

ohmy ohmy ohmy ohmy ohmy ohmy ohmy

'Doubling everyone's speed is a pretty big job - we've got over 4 million Virgin Media customers who will receive double speeds, but rest assured, my fittest, fastest engineers will be in your area from July and going as fast as they can.

Don't worry, they've got everything covered. And if we need to give you a new modem to cope with the extra speed, they'll let you know.'

Ermmm never thought of that.

I'll keep my modem thanks and whatever speeds it achieves above 50mb is a bonus...they can keep their Fuck Hub, I don't want it.

Looking into it, there might not be much option.

Some areas use 4 channels for 100mb and others use 5, apparently the VMNG300's don't work very well in 5 channel areas, the SuperDud does (for a given value of 'well').  confused

Fingers crossed we live in a 4 channel area.

I really don't care if I get over 50mb on my current modem.....they may give me 100 mb...but I'll happily stay on my current on 50mb before going on that super fuck.

We're still only getting 1.5, but most are on 5.

That's with 50mbps, no idea what it is on 100. confused
