Cameron has upped the ante during an answer in question time, referring to the Argentines as colonials.
Argentina has long referred to the Brits as 'colonial pirates' and as we all know has now persuaded Uruguay and other mercosur countries to bar entry to their ports, ships flying the Falkland flag.
I don't see any conflict in the immediate future, touch wood, but I get the impression that Cameron is finally taking this matter seriously.
You wouldn't believe the vitriol directed towards the UK 'pirates' by FB followers of the Arg press...........from forgiving Hitler for bombing Britain wishing he had done more damage to this, written in English:
'For somebody coming DIRECTLY from PIRATES, SLAVE TRADER, CRIMINALS, MURDERERS AND COLONIALISTS, you have no right to put Argentina at your level. You are a thief and you have no shame.
Return MALVINAS to their REAL OWNER, ARGENTINA.
I realize that England is going to the dumps, you have enough problems to take care of, but I don't understand why take the time to protect the ex-prime minister husband business.

Those last few words got me puzzled scratchhead

This from a local news agency:

Argentine posturing and rhetoric is kinda minor in comparison to some.

I don't understand the ex-PM bit myself, but Blair has been under scrutiny about his taxes and Cherie Blair is planning on opening up a chain of private health clinics (on the back of Tory deregulation).

It's the 30th anniversary of the war this year and the rhetoric can only increase.
Of course the oil doesn't calm these troubled waters Wink

I don't think many people over here are that bothered about it tbh, their comments are largely ignored.

He needs to ask if the navy can launch fighters off a carrier that is heading in the wrong direction Sad

To directly quote  military man I know... we have four euro fighters on permanent station and a nuclear sub on patrol continuously... compared to an airforce that was last effective in the fifties. Nothing Argentina has would even get close.

Weight of numbers combined with a relatively short supply chain would count for a lot, so they could probably manage to mount another invasion (at some cost).

Making it stick is another matter though.....again. tongue2

That sub will be carrying a fair few Cruise missiles, enough to render the Argentine navy and dockyards new reefs for coral to grow on.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Did I hear in the news report yesterday that Oil has been discovered on or offshore of the Falklands.
If so, imho this will escalate

Ha ha, just that it stuck in my mind I suppose.

Remember reading Secret Diary of Adrian Mole as a kid. As war began it read something like;
'Spent most of the afternoon looking on the map for the Falkland Islands. Mum came home from shopping and couldn't find it either. Finally Dad came home, it was hidden under a crumb from my RichTea biscuit'

Funny how I can remember that but hold nothing of use for longer than a day  wacko

The oil is a major factor in this dispute.

"We don't really want them"
"Oh, you found oil? Those are ours"

Falklanders want to be part of the UK. Their choice, not the Argentines.
