I got an email from a recruitment agency saying that a client is offering €90 a day to work 3pm to 11pm in the role of Field Service Engineer on a 3 month contract. I would be interested to know if there is anything i need to ask/look out for when applying for this http://www.chase.ie/field-service-engineer-various-locations-throughout-ireland/

That's the sort of job that got me a foot in the door but they don't specify how many hours a week, which would be handy to know. If it's only a couple of nights you might be able to fit it in with your current employer if you get on ok with them and explain that it's the direction you plan to go in.
(Don't know how the tax works in Ireland, in the UK it's 40% tax on a second job, but it could be worth taking the hit on this one in the hope of more permanent work if that's the case)

Wow, 40% tax on a second job? Here, we change tax rates according to income and the first bracket is high enough to not effect most people needing a second job. I don't know much about your work situation Hijpo, but it sounds like what you need/want to move forward. G ood luck.

That would be an ideal situation woosty as iv just applied for a higher position in my current job also, im expecting a call from the IT crowd soon enough. I start at 9pm every second friday at the moment so even if it was monday to thursday it would be perfect. It feels some what too good to be true as with all my searching this is exactly what iv been looking for and failed to find but the opportunity has now found me. Thanks lads, lets see how it pans out Iv also been looking at this http://www.ebay.ie/itm/CISCO-Lab-CCNA-CCENT-CCNP-Router-Switch-WIC-1T-2610-2912-2900-NM-4A-S-/120828919513?pt=UK_Computing_Networking_SM&hash=item1c21f6fed9Anyones input/advice would be greatly appreciated

Worth toughing it out for 12 weeks anyway. Wow, 40% tax on a second job? Here, we change tax rates according to income and the first bracket is high enough to not effect most people needing a second job.
Same here, but the 2nd job usually is enough to take you into the higher (40%) tax bracket.

Not all states have income tax though. I think the percentage is the same on the end the world over. Property tax, sales tax, blah, blah..... Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

I recall Stevie used the Dynamips emulator, which is now gone end of life after Cisco stopped support. It's still available, but I have no idea how well it works, if at all. (We have a pallet of old 3524 PoE switches, the odd 3508 Agg and assorted AP's (plus relevant Modules)...it probably wouldn't be beyond the bounds of reason to ship some stuff your way if you're willing to pay postage....if you have any use for it. )

Look into Cisco emulators first though, there may be new one around. All the physical hardware does is flash some lights and eat through electrictrickery, the other 99.999% of the information available is through the command line. If Dynamips still works, even though it's 4 years old, chances are it'll still cover almost everything you'll run into. (And given the IOS the 3524's and 3508's run on is around that time or earlier, be far more up to date) I'll try to look out some reasonable kit regardless. (It's destined for recycling, so someone might as well get some use out of it)

Just downloading GNS3, its the first emulator that popped up in a search so i figured id try that.
Easy to configure and use, maybe i dont need the lab after all, but the equipment would be handy to have either way so if you still manage to dig out some kit let me know and ill fix you up.
I have to provide my own IOS files so was wondering what are the most common to date?

If you look on the Cisco site for the devices you are planning to use, you should see the available IOS versions for it. I found a mad Russian filesharing site that had piles of them available, but I forgot to bookmark it at the time.
