April 2 marks the 30th anniversary of the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands.
Today, thugs attacked a branch of HSBC in the city centre and I can only assume that more will come as the President whips up local feeling in the weeks to come.
It's all pretty sad really as the majority of Argentines are decent, peaceful people who accept the fact that they will never regain the islands.
What is worrying though, is the shambles this country is in; ripe for distracting the people's attention from these domestic problems, with some foolish adventure in the South Atlantic.
I certainly hope that never comes about.

It's alright we are sending the Dauntless.
Most advanced anti ship, anti air frigate in the world, and to paraphrase the navy source 'we could take out the entire of South Americas combined air force with it'
Though this is not a reaction apparently it was always planned to do a tour down there

If the entire airforce comes to the Dauntless that is. To land troops and effectively recapture land you need air superiority not just around a ship but for a whole exclusionary zone and beyond, beyond meaning more than the 250 miles a type 45 destroyer offers.. Aircraft carriers are needed to support any land assault away from home. |

Dauntless being sent south..............ditto Cameron calls Argentina colonialists as a tit for tat.......ditto Oil prospecting reveals 'some' oil...................ditto New airport being built on Falklands and the same on St Helena...................ditto Not even the Argentines themselves take President Cristina seriously (they refer to her as Kretina lol) as she continues to bribe and brainwash the poor at the expense of the taxpayers....sound famliar? Now her Vice pres, Boudou is asking for her mandate to be extended by Congress, beyond two terms in the same way that lunatic in Venezuela, Chavez has done. We're pretty sure she's shagging both of them btw. Many now call this place Argenazuela. Fucking banana republic............but I can't help liking it  |

Politics...eh?  She's probably had some bad advice about trying to emulate Thatcher from the opposing side..30 years too late. If you are a Prime Minister, or a President, or "Glorious Leader" etc., you are onto a win if you win some war...but someone has to start one first, and nine times out of ten the aggressor loses either the war, international credibility, or (more usually) both. |
