Now the Argies and their other Banana Republic friends, including Chavez of Venezuela et al are proposing sanctions against GB. Of course they haven't broken off diplomatic relations as yet, so how that will pan out is anyone's guess. And what type of sanctions may they have in mind? No banana exports? Most British companies made a sharp exit in 2001 and many of the UK banks are seriously considering their position in Arg right now, regardless. Sanctions are supposed to bite and bite hard. How can they bite the UK?

I don't think they've thought that through. If they imposed sanctions on an EU member, chances are the whole EU would impose their own sanctions in retaliation.
(Then again, given Cameron's recent behaviour...they'd probably just laugh their arses off.)

Cristina Fernandez (Kretina) has called an important meeting at The Casa Rosada, Buenos Aires today Tuesday at 1900 local time. No details of her announcements/plans have been divulged so far, but speculation is rife that they will overturn the accords of 1999 and the air bridge from Punta Arenas, Chile will be axed. Of course they are also talking of widespread sanctions (as already mentioned) from most SA countries against Britain; what those would entail is anyone's guess. My feeling is that they should be more worried about EU sanctions against Arg. Believe me, this country is becoming more isolated by the day. We all remember Galtieri; and her actions now are akin to his actions in 1982.....let's distract the people from our appalling problems domestically. It's sometimes a little despairing really. The poverty over here is in your face; beggars on the streets, railway stations and public transport. The 'night people', who do a very useful job of gathering up rubbish for selling/recycling, live in nothing more that squalid shacks of plywood.

So she ends up taking a complaint to the UN. Not wanting to fuck with Chile, she does nothing about the air bridge. But she does come up with a blinding idea: The domestic football league will now be known as Crucero General Belgrano, the ship sunk by HMS Conqueror in 1982 with the loss of over 300 lives. The cup will be known as The Gaucho Rivero cup, after an Arg 'resident' of the Falklands who apparently slotted some British soldiers there in 1833. You really couldn't make it up could you?

The economy here has always been fucked and probably always will be. There's an NGO unit here called INDEC which used to be one of the most well respected institutes for national statistics, until this govt got it mits on it. They now churn out rubbish twisted by the govt..ie we have 8% inflation, when the reality is +/- 32%. I don't quite know what else she has up her sleeve.

Listening to the morning news on my drive to work this morning and I couldn't help but laugh at the loco cow. The Argentine government are making the news over here now because of their complaints about the Falklands. She's apparently very upset at the British presence of naval power in the region coupled with Prince Williams deployment in the area. Apparently she has asked as a gesture of goodwill to smooth things out that Prince William wears civilian clothes
