That's a big brush you're wielding there..

Didn't an Amish fella blow away a bunch of kids last year? But I don't say that all Amish are violent.
Street protests and violence aren't limited to Gaza either..
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2000/n.ireland/marching.html (fucking Christians.. laugh)

And you hear of countries trying to protect their language all the time (you'll always get the odd arsehole going OTT), for instance in France it is illegal for any radio station to broadcast less that 40% of French language programming (they're really bent out of shape about the proliferation of English over there).  Wink

Quote
Taliban militants shot dead a teenage boy in southeastern Afghanistan for teaching English to his classmates, local police said.

That kinda explains it more than the extreme intricacies that could be debated for weeks regarding the interpretation of the religion.

First they came for the Communists, I didn't speak up,
as I wasn't a Communist.
They came for the Jews, I didn't speak up,
as I wasn't a Jew.
They came for the Protestant, I didn't speak up, as I was a Catholic.
then they came for the Muslims, I said nothing as I am not of Islam
Then they came for me, by that time there was no one left to speak for me.

The taliban are probably the biggest bunch of arseholes alive on the planet today...and tbh I don't even know it's through ignorance or design.

They systematically destroy everything that doesn't relate to their own point of view and that (imho) makes them no better than vermin.

just to throw my 2p, but i believe all religion is a form of slavery.

if you bow down in thanks every day for everything god has given you, you are a slave to that god... if they are real or not it is irrelevant.

i don't believe that anyone, no matter how powerful they are should have power over you, creator or otherwise. this is of course where all sorts of religious views come in, but basically speaking in the bible gods not really very nice. you must worship him, anything good is not done by you, its by god and you should thank him for it. if you do something that is bad, thats not gods fault. that said i still find myself using the expression 'thank god' but i think its more a slang thing, rather than anything...

at the moment i'm not fully of the opinion there is or is no god... maybe the whole point is irrelevant. maybe its just a way so that humans can deal with their and others mortality.

at any rate, i'm comfortable knowing i could just end up rotting in a box i'm not scared of that fact.

Picking random news articles and having a whinge isn't proving anything to anyone. There are more than enough articles about christian's out there. I am not going to bother to try and change your mind on your opinion on muslims, one of the biggest religions in the world. I am curious as to what you hope to achieve by posting stuff like this here? It is just provoking arguments.

This is the very place to post up stuff like this.  tongue2
I probably don't have a hope in hell of changing AF's mind but I'll give it a good fucking go... laugh

I'm certainly not afraid to call a spade a spade if I see the necessity but I also don't like to generalise.
I've seen too many Catholics spew hatred of Protestants and vice versa, knowing full well that there equal amounts of arseholes on both sides and if they just took a good fucking look at themselves they'd see that they probably more in common than not (their bigotry for a start).
Separate schools, separate factories and separate communities is a shit situation for a 'civilised' country to be in and I'm glad we are now moving out of the dark ages and not into it.

lol your not scared at the moment cause your young but wait till you get to my age tongue2
i think that religion does help people deal with mortality, but since i have seen the terror on a persons face who knows they are going to die i would say that religion is actually a wonderfull thing in the respect that it offers comfort and i wish i was as lucky as some people who believe in God.
Also i think the middle east is too complex a question to blame it on religion... perhaps we are missing the point and instead of hating islam/muslims we should be embracing it and using it as a weapon to destroy these murders.

For one...I dont pick random articles, I read lots of articles and decide what I want to post.....
2...I dont whinge, I make a statement. And I dont dont have to prove a fcuken thing to anyone, I call a spade a spade.
3...I dont need to be reminded about how bad christians/catholics, jews, and various other religions have been or in some cases still are.
4...Does it have to be about achieving anything?... This forums is called "The soap box"..it's self explanatory, I am curious as to what you hope to achieve by asking me that very same question.
5...For what it's worth I am open to debate, I enjoy a good arguement. But keep it in this century, not some arguement about how other religions did the same thing back when 'blisters of urine' where used as medicine.

Know me before you accuse me, dont take the cheap shot and play the race card, this has fcuk all to do with race, I come from a diverse family background myself.
In my club I have hundreds of brothers from many different backrounds and many different races, Australian (Aboriginal and Anglo), Scottish, Irish, German, Greek, Italian, Scicilian, Maltese, Welsh, British, Belgian, New Zealand (Maori and Pakeha), Swiss, American, Canadian, Ivory Coast, Finland...and many more, these are just the blokes I can remember off the top of my head, all of whom are my brothers....

I didn't read all the posts so if this has been pointed out please forgive me.  It was NOT an Amish man who shot those girls in the Amish school.  I don't know what religion he was but he was not from their community.  The Amish families reached out to his wife and forgave him for his actions.  They even attended his funeral (he shot himself after killing several girls).  I refrained from googling the story because I don't think the details are what really matters here.

See, i'm not gonna say i'm not gonna say i'm gonna get scared if i ever get told i'm gonna die... i'd imagine my first reaction would be 'fuck'.

Religion is a good tool for that purpose i guess, but i doubt i'll ever be religious... man of science.

The thing is that the major news on the political stage at the moment is centred around countries that are predominantly Muslim.
That gives us the impression that it's Muslims doing all the bad in the world isn't it ? That's how news reportage works, someone manipulates you to their way of thinking. So bearing that in mind, take it up a notch to government, who via clandestine approach control the media. Then put two and two together and you get the government manipulating what we think by making Muslims look bad as they know that since the end of the cold war Islamic states are enemy number one. Because of their religion, well maybe, it could be down to Bush and his beliefs conflicting, but chances are it's gold, black gold. Then again it's politics and these countries via their leaders who rule their land by proxy for Allah involve politics with religion, as far as they are concerned the two are married. So that brings us to ...

Oil

We wants it
We can't gets it politically or commercially via acceptable channels
Our governments manipulate the media to show mad mullahs, presidents and muslims of Islam in a bad light
They want us to hate them
We end up hating them just in time for the nice money generating oil wars
We go in readily, fighting this evil
We ain't no idea how our own government just bent us at will

AF is first in...die, die, die Muslims arrrggghhhhhh
AF is an example citizen (in the eyes of a western government)

laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Ah, I should write for Dan Brown when he's on holiday    laugh
